Entry tax from offshore casinos up by 9500 pc

The revenue from offshore casinos through entry fee has gone up by a whopping over 9500 % in the last 10 years.

As per the written reply tabled in the House, the revenue earned through collection of entry fee has increased from Rs 1.21 crore in 2007-08 to Rs 118 crore in 2016-17 indicating that the rise in the revenue is to the tune of a whopping 9611 per cent. However, the total revenue earned during these 10 years is Rs 469.53 crore.
In a written reply to the question on the mechanism adopted for collection of entry fee, Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar, who is also the Home Minister, stated, "As per the Goa Entertainment Tax Act, 1964, the proprietor deposits the amount towards entry fee tickets in the Government Treasury in advance and collects the Pre-authenticated printed entry ticket books from the office of the Commissioner of Commercial Taxes on submission of paid challan towards entry fee."
"Officials of Commercial Taxes Department carryout inspections/visits to check necessary compliances by the casinos", informed Parrikar in a reply to the question on mechanism adopted for checking the pilferage of entry tax.
However, the total revenue collection from offshore and onshore casinos for the last three years amounts to Rs 195.95 crore in 2014-15, 202.64 crore in 2015-16 and Rs 282.92 crore in 2016-17.
