EPF compliance now must for edu institutions

PANAJI
The Directorate of Education (DoE) has directed all the educational institutions to register under the Employees’ Provident Fund (EPF) and Miscellaneous Provisions (MP) Act, in order to provide provident fund benefits to their employees.

A circular in this regard has been issued to the Heads of all government, government aided, unaided primary, secondary, higher secondary and special schools.

Education Director Shailesh Zingde said that EPF and MP are social legislations enacted by the Parliament by Act of 1952 with an objective to provide social benefits of EPF, pension and insurance to the employees in the organised sector.

Following communication from the Employees’ Provident Fund Organization (EPFO), it is a mandatory requirement of all education institutions to register under the EPF and MP Act.

“Educational institutions which have employed 19 employees directly or indirectly through a contract are liable to be registered mandatorily,” he said. The department has asked the schools to register on priority basis.
