The ‘rogue’ buffalo that claimed the life of a 42-year-old man from Cuncolim on Thursday was finally tamed and impounded on Friday after a 5-6 long hour operation, but not before the authorities sought the help of a group from Benaulim to assist in the operation.
A team of officials from the Animal Husbandry, Forest, besides the police and locals resumed the operation to impound the buffalo, but in vain. Like on Thursday, the tranquilizer shots hardly had any effect on the buffalo as a result of which the locals and forest officials tried to impound the animal with ropes.
Local residents of Panzorconi-Cuncolim also joined the operation, but the buffalo simply could not be tamed. The police sent a message to a group of persons from Benaulim to assist in the operation. After a coordinated work by all the agencies and the people, including the group roped in from Benaulim, the buffalo was not only impounded but later transported in a waiting vehicle.
Cuncolim police station in-charge, PI Diego Gracias said the buffalo was later transported in a vehicle to the gaushala at Betul.
To a question, PI Gracias said the mortal remains of 42-year-old deceased Ravindra Gaonkar was handed over to his relatives on Thursday itself after post mortem examination. The autopsy report had certified the cause of death as “damage for neck due to the injury caused by horn like blunt elongated object”.
Ravindra Gaonkar was gored to death by the buffalo at Panzorconi-Cuncolim near his cow shed.
