Erratic fireworks allegedly set a Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza car on fire which was virtually reduced to ashes in the parking lot of a popular open-air venue in Bardez on Saturday at midnight.
The occupants of the car were attending the New Year’s Eve ball at the venue when the incident occurred.
The fireworks, including rockets, are set on fire at midnight to announce the arrival of the New Year.
Sources informed The Goan that when the fireworks started, instead of flying upwards, a rocket tipped over and shot through the side window of the car parked at the venue which caused the fire.
The firemen who attended the emergency call found some empty boxes of fireworks around the place and suspect that the fireworks could have triggered the fire.
A fire-tender of Pilerne fire station rushed to the spot to douse the fire after it was reported about the incident at 12.05 am.
The Pilerne fire personnel led by leading fire-fighter, N G Shettye along with other fire officials conducted the fire-fighting operation.
According to the firemen, the outstation registered car with registration number MH-12-NP-3684 was completely gutted in the fire.
