Sewage chambers and manholes have all become fountains in many parts of the commercial with water infiltration in the underground sewage line in full flow following incessant rains.
Take the case of the sewage chamber, behind the KTC bus stand, which was the cynosure of all eyes as the chamber was the source of water pollution during the summer months.
Come rainy season and the sewage chamber has now resembled a fountain with sewage mixed with rain water gushing out of the chamber in full force, throwing up question over the state of the sewage underground line and the chambers.
PWD officials, attached to the sewerage section, were not available for comment on Sunday, but sources in the know say the North main line lies underground in a dilapidated state, with rampant rain water infiltrations into the line at several points.
An official pointed out that the state government had taken up the replacement of the North Main underground sewerage line, precisely because of the condition of the line, which was laid decades ago.
In fact, one may come across a number of water fountains at the sewage manholes along the existing north main line, spewing out sewage mixed with rain water.
At Comba along the ring road, sewage water is getting discharged into the adjoining storm water nullah, carrying the water into the river Sal.
What’s, however, interesting to note is that sewage manhole at Colmorod-Margao on the four-lane road has started posing nuisance as well as danger to the motorists travelling on the Navelim-Margao road.
For, not only water is coming out of the sewage manhole, but manhole cover poses a risk to the motorists, indicating that the sewage officials have not attended to the problem till date.
