PANAJI: Two-time former Calangute MLA Agnelo Fernandes on Sunday rejoined the Congress ahead of the 2027 Assembly elections, signalling his interest in contesting from the constituency.
Fernandes represented Calangute from 2002-07 and 2007-12 before quitting Congress in 2022 after the party inducted Michael and Delilah Lobo. The Lobos later won and joined the BJP.
“I resigned from the party for a particular reason, but I never left Congress from inside,” Fernandes said after his induction by Leader of Opposition Yuri Alemao.
Fernandes said Congress was the only party capable of taking Goa forward and claimed it would win all Bardez seats, including Calangute.
He also alleged that drugs and prostitution were being carried out openly in Calangute with political patronage.
