Former Mapusa municipal councillor Tarak Mangesh Arolkar, who is in judicial custody in connection with an alleged Rs 40 lakh property fraud case, was rushed to the North Goa District Hospital in Mapusa on Monday after complaining of chest pain.
Arolkar was taken to the hospital for medical evaluation and treatment. Details of his condition were not immediately available. It was also not clear whether he would be kept under observation or sent back to judicial custody.
Arolkar was arrested by the Crime Branch in August following a complaint by businessman Pankaj Bajaj over an alleged property transaction involving land at Assagao.
According to the complaint, Arolkar allegedly represented himself as the owner and sole authorised person to transact the property bearing Survey No. 37/4 and induced Bajaj to pay Rs 40 lakh towards the proposed sale.
The Crime Branch alleged that Arolkar failed to execute and register the sale deed despite receiving the money.
A case was registered under Sections 420, 406, 467, 468 and 471 of the IPC.
The case has also seen further investigative action, with the Enforcement Directorate conducting searches at premises linked to Arolkar in Mapusa as part of its probe into his financial and property-related dealings.
Arolkar’s bail plea was subsequently rejected by the Mapusa JMFC court, according to reports.
