VASCO
Former MPDA Chairman Krishna (Daji) Salkar now launched a free garbage helpline for the Vasco constituency.
Salkar launched the voluntary service after a mega cleanliness drive in Vasco on the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti.
Speaking to reporters, Salkar said a truck and four full-time labourers would be engaged by him and garbage from different areas would be collected on the basis of a phone call.
“The Mormugao Municipal Council (MMC) is working continuously to clear the garbage, but the council can be overloaded with work and some debris may remain unattended. That is why we thought of giving a helping hand to municipal authorities and start the free garbage helpline.”
“Those who want to cut their trees can inform us so that we can come with this truck and collect the branches, instead of dumping them by the roadsides. We are also trying to see if we can extend this service to clear dark spots in the constituency,” said Salkar.
He informed that volunteers will form groups and move across all wards in the Vasco constituency to ensure there is no garbage or debris by the roadsides.
