Alleging misuse of power and cheating the public exchequer, a former sarpanch and two others have filed a complaint before the Directorate of Panchayats, seeing to disqualify the sarpanch and a panch of Khola Panchayat.

Ex-Khola sarpanch Shrinivas Nayak, Vijay Nayak and Anant Nayak have filed a complaint against Khola Sarpanch Ajay Pagi and Panch Krishna Velip and the matter is scheduled for hearing in the court of Assistant Director of Panchayat (Margao) under Sections 50(4) and 5 of Goa Panchayat Raj Act 1994 on October 3.

The complainants alleged that Sarpanch Ajay Pagi, during his previous term as sarpanch in 2016, along with Krishna Velip, had committed irregularities and misappropriation of panchayat funds regarding allotment of a shop premises in the village panchayat building in 2016.

The complainants alleged that Pagi had leased a shop to Goa State Large Size Multipurpose Coop Society Ltd (GSLSMCSL), represented by Velip from 2016, and till date, has not a paid a single rupee in rent to the panchayat.

They further alleged that no panchayat resolution was taken to allot the shop to GSLSMCSL nor any public notice was published to invite quotations, nor was the bidding process followed, before allotment of the shop.

Due to the misuse of power, the complainants alleged the sarpanch and panch caused misappropriation of funds to the tune of over Rs 3.31 lakh, and they have sought the removal of both sarpanch and panch from the membership of Khola Panchayat, to avoid further misappropriation and irregularities in the body.
