Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on Tuesday said that he did not stop the GoaMiles service in Goa although there was pressure from some quarters including his cabinet colleagues.

Goa Tourism Development Corporation has supported the app-based cab service which was launched in the State in 2018 but faced stiff opposition from traditional tourist taxi lobby in the year 2019.

“I had faced pressure from various quarters. There was pressure on me either to stop GoaMiles or restrict its working in certain parts of the state,” said Sawant.

The CM admitted that several people including some of his cabinet colleagues forced him to take steps against the app-based cab service.

Tourist taxi operators in August 2019 had opposed the service but CM successfully negotiated with them.

GoaMiles has launched its magazine ‘Travel Miles’ in cab at the hands of Chief Minister Pramod Sawant. This is India’s first in-cab magazine.

According to GoaMiles CEO Utkarsh Dabhade, out of 1900 members around 1600 Goa Miles taxi operators are active. It has completed a milestone of 4 lakh trips catering to around one million passengers, he added.
