Power Minister Nilesh Cabral on Tuesday said that the power department by overcoming legal and other technical hurdles has solved 95 per cent power-related issues of North Goa coastal belt and by end of May power problems in the coastal areas of Calangute, Assagao, Anjuna will be solved.
“95 per cent of the issues of North Goa coastal belt has been taken care of. Issues pertaining to places like Candolim, Assagao, Siolim, Calangute and Parra will be solved by May,” said Cabral in a press conference.
Cabral issued a white paper on various works of the Electricity Department.
During the festival season and recently year-ending season there were frequent power problems in the North Goa coastal area. There was load shedding in this area.
As some people objected to power cable laying works and went to court, there was a delay in installing high-tension power cable in the coastal area. The department has now overcome this hurdle, informed the minister.
He clarified that the government will not bring in any hike in power tariff until 24 hours power supply target is achieved.
“Till there is 24×7 power supply there would be no tariff hike. We have to first ensure that we provide uninterrupted power to our consumers,” he stated. Cabral has disclosed that upgrading of Verna sub-station was underway.
He said the department has decided to scrap the new extra-high power substations at Tuem and Verna due to financial constraints.
He has informed that power supply is being managed through existing sub-stations.
