FAKE BIRTH CERTIFICATES

Even as many an eyebrow is raised in the corridors of the Margao civic body over the inquiry initiated into the fake birth certificate, Margao Municipal Chief Officer Y B Tawde has asserted there’s no pressure on him to go slow in the investigations into the rnepisode.

More than a week has passed, but  no sign of inquiry report from MMC

It’s now more than a week since the Municipal Chief Officer has ordered a probe by the Municipal Accounts and Administrative Officer, but the inquiry report is not yet ready. That’s not all. What has raised further eyebrows in the civic body is Tawde’s decision to give an extension of one week for the AAO to cap the inquiry. “There is no pressure on me from any quarters to go slow into the inquiry. The municipality is serious in unearthing the modus operandi adopted by some unscrupulous people to get their births registered by means of forgery,”  Tawde said, adding that the inquiry should hopefully bring out the role of the municipal officials, if any.
The delay in capping the ongoing inquiry by the municipality had raised eyebrows given the fact that the Margao police has now maintained that no complaint has so far come from the MMC in the case. This has assumed significance given that the Margao police has registered the FIR against one Renuka Tehsildar following a complaint lodged by the Fernandes couple from Benaulim.
Says Margao PI C L Patil: “During investigations, it has come to light that Renuka had given the names of the Fernandes family, but shown their address as Aquem and Ponda. This will raise the question of the locus standi of the Fernandes family in lodging the complaint. The Margao police can take the investigations to its logical conclusion if MMC comes forward and lodges a complaint against those who had forged the non-availability certificate and other aspects of the case, the PI added.
Tawde, meanwhile, has said he has asked the Municipal AAO to complete the inquiry within this week and also find out the number of non availability certificates and tally them with the court orders issued for registration of birth certificates.
