Briefing mediapersons, Margao Town PI CL Patil said the police action was in response to an advertisement in a newspaper pertaining to the alleged tantric, one Ram Tirth Sahani (42), a native of Uttar Pradesh (UP), who claimed to have the capability of solving problems pertaining to court matters, love, marriage, etc. Patil said the police verified these claims and discovered it to be a case of
alleged cheating.
Patil said the suspect was apprehended and items such as lemon and other paraphernalia related to tantric matters, photos, books containing names of many people were seized from him. According to Margao PI, the suspected fake tantric was charging a sum ranging from `10,000 to `50,000 from his clients, which commenced initially from a sum of `300 for the first visit. “He has been there for the past one-and-half years and we suspect that he has allegedly cheated around 200 to 400 people,” Patil remarked.
He also said a woman, a resident of Panvel (Maharashtra), was also seen in his company. He asked the affected people to lodge complaints regarding any grievances in this matter.
Responding to a question, the Margao PI said the tantric had so far accepted money from people of all religions from places such as Panaji, Ponda, Porvorim, etc, as discovered by the police from the book confiscataed from
the tantric.
