The imposing South Goa District Collectorate building came into sharp focus over its maintenance when a small portion of false ceiling came crashing down on the ground floor on Friday morning.
The ceiling came down with a loud sound on the ground, just meters away from the office handling Aadhar card matters.
The South Goa District Collectorate has been craving for attention from the government over its maintenance for a long time now. While the collapse of the false ceiling, though a small portion, should come as an eye-opener to the authorities, sources said the false ceiling may give way if steps are not initiated on a priority basis.
Staff employed in the District Collectorate building and visitors alike had been complaining of inadequate sanitation amenities in the building. An employee pointed out that though the building has several toilets, the administration has put to use only the bare minimum for both male and female users.
That’s not all. Even the building has a provision for several urinals on all floors, but this too is restricted for want of proper maintenance.
Though Revenue Minister Jennifer Monserrate during her visit to the South Collectorate promised a turnaround in the amenities, including sanitation, the ground reality remains unchanged.
