Fatorda MLA Vijai Sardesai’s farmers market proposed on the bandh opposite the district hospital kicked up a row of sorts after the opposition accused him for filling of the low-lying field.
Even as some persons assembled near the site on Tuesday morning, demanding action in the land filling case, the Fatorda MLA instructed the contractor to get the mud dumped in the fields removed by evening.
While admitting that the contractor engaged to plan the farmers market for the vegetable vendors from Fatorda, mistakenly dumped the mud in the fields, Sardessai said he has asked the contractor to remove all mud dumped in the field. “A shovel is working at the site to get the field cleared of the mud. I admit that mud was mistakenly dumped in the field. But, at the same time, I would like to clarify that some people initially told us not to remove the mud, but later made an issue. It appears that there’s some instigators behind the whole issue," he said.
Saying that some people are opposing his plans to accommodate local Goan vendors in the fish market or at the farmers market, the MLA said what is being opposed is part of politics. “While these people are trying to put spokes in the farmers market, which has been taken up as per the MMC resolution, they had conveniently turned a blind eye when the very same area was being used by non Goans to manufacture cement grills. The activity was an eyesore, but these people had never opposed it," he added.
