The Adjudicating Officer cum District Magistrate, North Goa has convicted Suresh Devar, proprietor cum food business operator of M/s Ganesh Farsan at Madel, Tivim, Bardez with a penalty of Rs 20,000 under Section 68(ii) of the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006 for manufacture and sale, distributing and selling a misbranded food article in contravention of section 26(2) of the food safety and standards Act, 2006 read with regulation 2.2.2.8 of the Food Safety and standards (Packaging and Labeling) Regulation 2011.
The Senior Food Safety Officer of Food and Drugs Administration had also found misbranded food articles on August 12, 2015 with him.
The Directorate of Food and Drugs Administration directed all the food business operators to take note of the said penalty imposed on food vendors for dealing in misbranded food articles and thereby ensure that, they do not purchase any such unlabeled, defective labeled, misbranded food articles at their premises, so as to avoid such penal action against them.
Consumers are advised not to purchase any unlabeled articles in their larger health interest.
