Two persons, including a police constable attached to CID at Bicholim, died in two separate accidents at Solye-Valpoi and Bordem-Bicholim on Wednesday.
According to Valpoi Police, the accident occurred at 1.40 pm when Police Constable attached to CID at Bicholim, Mahendra Solyekar (32), was on his way home at Solyem for lunch on his two-wheeler (GA-07-G-1258). On reaching at a turn near Solyem, he collided against an oncoming truck.
The police said Solyekar was crushed by the truck, due to which he died on the spot. “Solyekar was wearing a helmet, but after he was hit by the truck the helmet was flung off,” informed police.
Valpoi PI Deepak Pednekar along with his team rushed to the site and conducted the panchanama.
Police sent the body to GMC Hospital at Bambolim and has booked the truck driver.
Solyekar had joined police service 10 years back.
The final rites will be held on Thursday. Solyekar is survived by his wife, one son, mother, father and three brothers. Valpoi Police is investigating the case.
In another accident, an employee of LIC Bicholim office, Premanand Shripad Sawant (46) from Assagao died in an accident involving a pickup and a motorcycle near Salkar Residency at Bordem-Bicholim at about 9.45 am.
According to Bicholim Police, Sawant was proceeding to his work place at LIC office at Bicholim on his motorcycle (GA-03-S-5469), when an oncoming pickup (GA-04-T-1849) dashed him. He was rushed to PHC Bicholim, from where he was referred to GMC Hospital at Bambolim.
HC Krishna Naik conducted the panchanama. Police have booked an offence against the pickup driver under Sections 279 and 304-A of IPC. PSI Harish L Gawas is investigating the case under the guidance of PI Narayan Chimulkar.
