Arch political rivals “ Independent MLA Vijai Sardesai and former MLA and BJP general secretary Damu Naik “ have now descended on Fatorda’s playing turf ahead of the 2017 Assembly elections. It’s not known whether they had ever honed their football skills in their young age, but the duo have entered the arena to further their political agendas.
However, both maintain their entry has nothing to do with politics, but they know for sure that the game of football offers them the huge platform to win the hearts of the Fatorddekars and position themselves to score a goal in the coming Assembly election
If the Fatorda MLA inaugurated the football ground near Kenibab’s place coinciding with his birthday on Tuesday, his rival Damu Naik did not lag behind. In a strange coincidence, Damu on Tuesday announced the setting up of what he called as the first football centre in Fatorda to nurture football’s young sporting talent.
While Sardesai has pumped in his own funds to build the football ground “ hardly a few meters away from the Nehru stadium “ his rival has tied up with Goa Football Development Council (GFDC) to set up the football training centre. Damu’s Shree Dambabalem Ghodem Cultural Association, which has tied up with GFDC, will hold the football training .
