Goa Forward Chief Vijai Sardesai has called on the government not to dismiss valuable initiatives simply because he took the lead in organising them.
Speaking after visiting a canine sterilisation camp in Fatorda, Sardesai urged the government to extend the programme across Goa to address the growing stray dog issue, which he described as a threat to both residents and tourism. The camp organised by We For Fatorda, World Veterinary Services and the South Goa Welfare Trust for Animals has so far sterilised 535 dogs and 61 cats, ensuring effective stray animal population control. “I have been constantly pleading with CMO Goa and the government of Goa to replicate this all over Goa so that a permanent solution to the rampant stray dog menace, which is a threat to residents and tourism, is found. Though I’m personally happy to have fulfilled my promise to the people of Fatorda for this camp, I am deeply disappointed by the rejection of this idea from the powers that be, barring the minister from attending this camp, and the government’s refusal to adopt it in other areas,” he said.
He added: “My request to them is: Do not use your political rivalry with me, or ego, to deny Goemkars and Goa what they rightfully deserve. Goa is bigger than you and me, and what’s beneficial for Goa should be beneficial for all of us.”
