FDA raids Tivim eateries, shuts down four over poor hygiene

In a surprise food safety drive near Tivim Railway Station, the Food and Drugs Administration (FDA) conducted surveillance checks at 14 establishments, including restaurants, tea stalls, liquor wholesale units and dry fruit shops on Tuesday.

The inspection resulted in four establishments being directed to immediately cease operations due to unhygienic conditions.

The remaining units were issued improvement notices under Section 32 of the Food Safety and Standards Act (FSSA), 2006 and have been given a 14-day deadline to comply with the prescribed standards.

Additionally, one unit, previously inspected was penalised with a ₹5,000 fine under Section 69 of the same Act for non-compliance.

The drive was led by North Goa Designated Officer Richard Noronha and Food Safety Officers Lenin De Sa and Amit Mandrekar under the guidance of FDA Director Shweta Dessai as part of the department’s ongoing efforts to ensure food safety and hygiene in public establishments.
