It also took samples from four other tankers at Curti (Goa Dairy gate) and Kundaim Industrial Estate.
Speaking to The Goan, Rajiv Korde, senior food safety officer of FDA, said they have taken samples of three tankers that were supplying milk to Goa Dairy, while one supplying milk at Kundaim. “This industry processes milk for two brands,” he said.
“We wanted to check whether any adulteration in milk is taking place. As these tankers come from neighbouring states, we keep routine check. We have taken samples and have sent it to our laboratory. The report will confirm whether the milk supplied in Goa is of good quality or adulterated,” Korde said.
When asked whether it was a routine check, Korde replied in the positive. “Yes, but one tanker from Belagavi was carrying milk which had abnormal flavour. This could pose danger to health, hence we have rejected it and sent it back,” he said.
Korde further said the exercise is being carried out to check quality of milk supplied to milk brands processed and filled in Goa. “Not only Goa Dairy, but one industry from Kundaim Industrial Estate filling milk for two brands was also checked. We have taken samples from their cold storages and one tanker,” he added.
Korde further informed that if milk is found adulterated after test, they will take action against the suppliers and will ask the milk brands to take measures.
Meanwhile, the FDA sealed a shop opposite the Maruti temple at Warkhande-Ponda for illegally selling cigarettes and gutkha. “The shop belonged to Salman Kadar, who didn’t possess a licence,” said Korde.
