As part of the special festival drive in South Goa district, several pre-Diwali inspections were carried out across all talukas in October to check for malpractices. A total of 23 inspections were conducted at manufacturing units in Salcete to verify hygienic and sanitary conditions. The FDA team also inspected various inter-state buses at the KTC bus stand in Margao early in the morning.
During the inspection, meat products such as chicken drumsticks and chicken curry cuts were detained due to improper labelling. The manufacturer, KGN Processed Chicken from Pune, was instructed to recall the detained stock back to Pune.
In another inspection, around 300 kg of the food item Imlee Goli worth Rs 33,000 was found without proper label declarations. The stock was detained and samples were sent to the Food Laboratory for testing. The team is awaiting the Food Analysis Report.
At Cuncolim, about 11 kg of mawa worth Rs 2,500 was destroyed.
Another inspection drive was carried out to check the transport of mawa. In Davorlim, a vehicle was found carrying mawa to local sweet manufacturers without maintaining proper storage conditions required for milk products. Bags of kalakand, burfi, and rabdi were also found without label declarations such as manufacturing date, expiry date, and storage conditions. One of the FSSAI licence numbers was found to be inactive, and the stock was transported in unsuitable conditions.
