CORTALIM
Cortalim Parish Priest Fr Diogo Manuel Fernandes reflected on the feast of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary which commemorates the death of Mary and her bodily assumption into Heaven. Because it signifies the Blessed Virgin s passing into eternal life, it is the most important of all Marian feasts and is a Holy Day of Obligation. The Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary into Heaven at the end of her earthly life is a defined Dogma of the faith of Catholic Church. On November 1, 1950, Pope Pius XII, exercising Papal infallibility, declared in Munificentissimus Deus that it is a Dogma of the Church. Before the concelebrated mass, Parish Priest Fr Fernandes descended into the fields and cut the first sheaves of paddy, to ceremoniously reap the fruits of the farmers labour and also blessed the crop which was followed by a procession with the statues of Partrons St Philip and St James. Other present for the concelebrated mass were Fr Joao Manuel Dias, Fr Ryan Pinto and Assistant Parish Priest Fr Joulon Dias.
