MMC officials in quandary after Babita chooses to shun new vehicle for own

Margao Municipal Council chairperson Babita Angle Prabhudesai on Tuesday came to the civic body in her private vehicle. The Toyota Innova car, however, was seen parked in front of the Municipal building and the civic officials are now working out the modalities on how to return the vehicle to the company in view of the chairperson s decision. Babita is believed to have put up a note to the Chief Officer Y B Tawde informing her decision to use her private vehicle. When The Goan contacted Chief Officer Y B Tawde to shed light on the development, he said though the chairperson will be entitled to use the municipal driver and fuel for her private vehicle, the municipality has asked for administrative approval from the Director of Municipal Administration (DMA) as far as the fuel cost is concerned. “The chairperson s vehicle will be entitled for the official driver and fuel. But, as a matter of abundant caution, the DMA s nod has been sought for the proposal,” Tawde said. As far as the chairperson s decision to return the Toyota Innova car is concerned, the Chief Officer pointed out that his office has still not received the communication from the chairperson. “I have read in the newspapers about the chairperson s decision to return the car to the company. We will examine the matter and how to go about returning the vehicle to the company,” Tawde said. The MMC chairperson had on Monday told the media that she would return the Toyota car to the company and instead use her private vehicles
