Transport Minister Ramkrishna Sudin Dhavalikar has promised that the new central motor vehicle legislation would solve all the woes of the transport sector in the state including regulation, public transport as well as services for users. Replying to various concerns raised by legislators in the Assembly during the discussion on demands for the transport sector, Dhavalikar pointed to the fact that the central government has already appointed a committee of all transport ministers of which he is a member which is deliberating all the issues raised. “Several issues are being debated at the central level. These include road accident insurance, E-tolling based on a common RFID card, barrier free movement of freight between states, a new intracity taxing system, parking facilities for taxis in spaces, strengthening of the rural transport system, strengthening of the public transportation system, higher compensation to cases of road accidents, rules of road regulation and good samaritan guidelines,” Dhavalikar said. In terms of new facilities for the state, Dhavalikar said that a testing track on around 78,000 square metres of land at Ponda was on the anvil along with an automated driving testing. “Goa could have two or even three such centres. The aim is to ensure that road accident victims reach the facility within half an hour of the accident,” Dhavalikar said adding that the Supreme Court s good samaritan guidelines would also be implemented.

One trauma centre every 100-kmTransport Minister Dhavalikar said that as per the new central guidelines that are likely to be implemented shortly, one trauma centre every 100 km of road will be set up and along with the Health Department Goa could be the first state to have it in place.
