In the notification, it has also been mentioned it will be a paid holiday for those employed in government as well as private establishments.
“It shall be a paid holiday to the establishments including industrial workers, daily wage workers of the government department and state government industrial departments, commercial and industrial workers of private establishments in the state, all private establishments and daily wage or casual workers employed in any business, trade, industrial undertakings or any other establishment,” it said.
Also making the announcement, Additional Chief Electoral Officer Narayan Navti said the holiday had been declared to encourage people to come out and vote.
He also said the commission had begun training its staff at polling stations to deal with cases pertaining to the differently abled and general workings on the day of the election.
“If there is a long line at the polling station, those that are differently abled would be assisted and allowed to vote first. In the case of the blind and those that can’t walk, the companion would be allowed to assist them to the polling booth but would have to press the EVM button on their own, without any other person,” said Navti.
He also said that on the day of the election, after every male voter, two women voters would be allowed to enter the polling booth as they may have other work to attend to.
