An event where Health Minister Vishwajit Rane deservedly felicitated frontline Covid-19 workers at the Goa Medical College and Hospital (GMC&H) on Saturday morning has raised questions over social distancing norms allegedly being ignored.
Top doctors, including heads of departments, PG student doctors and other paramedics were feted by Rane but his late arrival at the examination hall by at least an hour led to chaos as various categories of frontline workers converged at the venue at the same time.
While inside the examination hall where the event was held proper arrangements were made to ensure social distancing, it was in the corridors approaching the hall that the crowding occurred, a doctor who was present said.
The authorities had otherwise arranged to slot different categories of frontline workers at different time intervals from 9 am but Rane arriving late by nearly an hour led to the chaos with multiple category workers converging at the venue.
Several lower category workers at the GMC were also upset that only top doctors were feted at Rane's hands while they were left to be felicitated by GMC&H Dean, Dr Shivanand Bandekar.
