Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on Saturday said testing labs have been set up at entry points in the State as part of efforts to prevent the entry of Covid Delta Plus variant in the State.
Sawant was speaking to reporters during his visit to the border check post at Keri-Sattari to inspect the Covid-19 testing facility and protocols being followed for people entering the State.
“The State government has once again begun testing at the border check posts. The private lab ‘Thyrocare’ has been set up at the Keri check post. This facility is set up as a precautionary measure to safeguard the people of Goa from the Covid Delta Plus variant.”
“After the detection of the Delta Plus variant, we are allowing visitors in the State only after testing,” said Sawant
Admitting that this would cause some inconvenience and people may have to wait for some time, the chief minister said there was no other option right now.
“After such testing, the report is received on the spot and if found positive, the person will be directly taken to a quarantine centre or admitted to a hospital. If the report is found negative, the person is allowed to proceed to his/her destination in the State.”
Stating that the State government is keeping vigil for the safety of the entire population of Goa, Sawant said such labs have been set up at entry points under the supervision of deputy collectors and mamlatdars to keep an eye on every visitor.
“Whosoever tests positive shall not be allowed to enter (the State). The testing has begun and the government appeals to all to cooperate,” said the Chief Minister.
