Felix L Rodrigues was on Tuesday elected unopposed as sarpanch of the 11-member Reis Magos Panchayat.

The post had fallen vacant after former sarpanch Kedar Naik resigned on May 13, citing personal reasons. The Block Development Officer Mapusa convened a special meeting on Tuesday to elect the new sarpanch in the panchayat office at Verem. All 11 panchas were present for the meeting.

Rodrigues' candidature was proposed by Subhash Pednekar, while it was seconded by Kedar Naik. As Rodrigues was the lone panch to file his nomination he was declared elected by the presiding officer.

Extension officer of Block Development Office Sandesh V Naik conducted the election proceedings and Panchayat Secretary Rajesh Naik assisted.

UP native found dead at Ponda

UP native found dead at PondaPONDA: The body of a 45-year-old native of Uttar Pradesh was found at Upper Bazar, Ponda, on Monday. According to reports, Ponda Police received a phone call from PCR Panaji informing that a male body was lying at Upper Bazar, Ponda. The police rushed to the site and the body was identified to be that of one Hiralal Ramkrishun. The body is preserved at GMC morgue after conducting the panchanama and police is investigating the case.
