Final rites of Nanodkar couple in Guirim today

The final rites of Guirim panch Shrimati Nanodkar and her husband, Pandurang, who were killed in a road mishap on the Mumbai-Goa highway at Sawantwadi, will take place at the crematorium in Guirim on Wednesday.

The final rites of Shrimati’s sister, Vilasini Satardekar, who also died in the mishap, were performed at the local crematorium at Kankavali on Tuesday, after Sawantwadi police handed over the body of Vilasini Satardekar to her family.

The bodies of the Nanodkar couple have been kept at the mortuary of the Goa Medical Hospital in Bambolim and their last rites will be performed on Wednesday afternoon.

On Monday, Guirim panch Srimati Nanodkar, her husband Pandurang and her sister Vilasini Satardekar died, while Srimati’s Sunny Nanodkar (Guirim panch) and his sister Ujjwala Kambli were seriously injured in the road mishap on the Mumbai-Goa highway at Sawantwadi.

The mishap took place as Sunny Nanodkar (36) was driving a Thar jeep, with his mother, Shrimati (58), his father, Pandurang (65), all from Guirim, his sister, Ujjwala Kambli (48) and Shrimati’s sister Vilasini Satardekar (54) as passengers.

The vehicle was on its way to drop off Vilasini in Kankavali, when Sunny allegedly lost control of the vehicle at Nemale area and the Thar jeep fell into a ravine by the roadside.

Shrimati, Vilasini, Pandurang, Sunny and Ujjwala were seriously injured and were first rushed to a hospital in Sawantwadi, where Shrimati and Vilasini were declared dead. Pandurang, Sunny and Ujjwala were later moved to the GMC hospital at Bambolim, where Pandurang died in the evening while undergoing treatment. Sunny and Ujjwala are still undergoing treatment at the GMC hospital.
