Varca village got a new Sarpanch and Deputy Sarpanch on Friday.
In the elections held on Friday, Crossly Charlton Lourenco and Tercy Carmelina D’Costa were elected unopposed as Sarpanch and Deputy Sarpanch respectively.
The election of the new sarpanch and deputy has put an end to the rule of administrator in the panchayat.
After the election, Charlton said the new body will try and complete the pending development works. “We six panch members had united and moved a no-confidence against the then sarpanch and deputy as the village did not witness any development in the last one year,” he said.
He said the new panchayat wants to help the people of Varca to be self-reliant through different schemes floated by Chief Minister Pramod Sawant under Swayampurna Goem.
To a question, Charlton said the new body is not aligned to any MLA or political party and added that the six-member group will be only aligned to the people of Varca to usher in development in the state.
Elections to fill up the two vacant posts were necessitated after then sarpanch Reginaldo Rodrigues and Deputy Vincentina Fernandes were voted out of office.
