The long arm of the law has finally caught up with the accused whose brutal assault on a trader was caught on the CCTV camera three years ago.

Exactly three years after he was charged for attempt to murder on a businessman at Borda on January 8, 2023, the South Goa Sessions Court has convicted and held guilty Bharat Bhomaram Chaudhary under Section 109 of the BNSS. Hearing on the point of sentence will take place in the Sessions Court on Monday.

The Fatorda police had registered FIR on January 8, 2023 after the incident that took place near Choudhary hardware, Vidyanagar, Fatorda wherein accused Bharat, aged 43 years assaulted Dungraram Lalit Choudhary, aged 38 years with a sharp weapon causing him serious multiple injuries on his body.

Initially, the Fatorda police had surprisingly refused to register the case of attempt to murder for reasons unknown. It was only after a group of people having their business in Goa who descended at the Fatorda police station that the police registered a case of attempt to murder – around 13 days after the brutal attack.

The delegation of traders had called on the Fatorda police to register a case of attempt to murder after the CCTV footage showed the accused assaulting mercilessly with a sharp weapon. Though the victim survived the attack, he is believed to have sustained permanent injuries on his fingers.
