MARGAO
Margao police were deployed in strength near the Jama Masjid, Margao during Friday prayers as a precautionary measure to avoid any untoward incident.

The police deployment comes a day after the District Registrar and Inspector General of Registration, South Suraj Vernekar dismissed an appeal filed by Abdul Gani Bepari challenging the elections of the Urfan Mulla Managing Committee of Sunni Jamatul Muslameen, Malbhat and upheld the poll results as valid and legal.

Vernekar had on Thursday rejected Gani Bepari’s application to declare the election dated June 15, 2023 as null and void.

Reacting to the verdict, Kadar Shah, who had staged a hunger strike near the Masjid on last Friday to condemn the delay by the District Registrar to decide on the application, said that the decision will be challenged before a higher authority.

On the other hand, Urfan Mulla told the media that the District Registrar has done justice to the managing committee by rejecting the application to declare the election null and void.
