Finally, Belagavi-Panaji road via Chorla to undergo repairs

BELAGAVI

After a long wait, the dilapidated Karnataka section of the Belagavi-Panaji road via Chorla will undergo repairs.

If officials are to be believed, the repair of the heavily damaged route is likely to commence on Friday. However, uncertainty prevails over the two-laning between Peeranwadi to Sanquelim.

“All issues related to the taking up of the repairs have been sorted out. A budget of Rs 2 crore has been sanctioned to take up repairs on the 43-km stretch between Jamboti and Chorla. I have personally inspected the route today morning and have directed the contractor to begin the repairs. Our priority is to make the road motorable and safe for commuters,” Bhuvanesh Kumar, Project Director at NHAI said.

Accordingly, the contractor for the repairs has been instructed to start the repairs on Friday. Though a period of four months has been allotted for the completion of repairs, the contractor is likely to complete the same before that.

The Belagavi market, which includes garment showrooms, hotels /restaurants and the vegetable market, is largely dependent on Goan customers. The traders were complaining about the adverse impact of the bad road on the business.

Reacting to the development, traders and showroom owners from Belagavi have expressed satisfaction.

“Our customers are complaining about the bad road due to which they have to think twice before coming to Belagavi. This is having an adverse impact on the business in Belgavi. We hope the market in Belagavi would get a major boost after the road is repaired,” the director of BSC Textile Mall Chandrashekhar Bankapur told The Goan.

Kamlesh Khoda of Mafatlal showroom & Harsh Khoda Mehnadi, Suresh Porwal of The Raymond Shop, Yogesh Kewlani of V Décor and others voiced the same opinion and have urged the authorities to see that quality is maintained during the repairs of the road.
