PANAJI
More than four years after it was shut for repairs and re-development, the Dona Paula jetty will finally be thrown open to the public in December, Revenue Minister Atanasio (Babush) Monserrate said on Thursday.
“It will be thrown open in December,” Monserrate told the media after holding discussions with Tourism Minister Rohan Khaunte on the issue.
Monserrate however did not specify any date for the opening even as the Corporation of the City of Panaji (CCP) and the GTDC will have to sought out the claims of the stall owners and give possession of the freshly designed kiosks.
The jetty was shut back in November 2018 by an order of the North Goa Collector, citing safety issues.
The re-development work however was launched only in February 2021 initially due to the policy paralysis attributed to then ailing chief minister the late Manohar Parrikar, and later over a choice of the agency that will take up the project.
Eventually, the work was carried out under the aegis of the Goa Tourism Development Corporation (GTDC).
