The Goa Staff Selection Commission (GSSC) will finally get legs to function with the Pramod Sawant cabinet on Wednesday approving creation of several posts for it.
Set up by an Act of the Goa legislative assembly in 2019, the GSSC was left with nominal officials heading it but in effect it was non-operational.
The law tasks it with the responsibility of overseeing all government recruitment to non-gazetted posts and the government was accused of deliberately keeping it non-operational to keep out of its ambit a number of recruitment processes conducted by individual departments in the run up to the 2022 assembly elections.
With the Cabinet approving creation of posts for GSSC on Wednesday, Sawant said future recruitment processes in the government will be routed through the commission once the posts are filled.
Sawant, meanwhile said that the cabinet also gave its approval for some posts in the Goa Energy Development Agency (GEDA).
In another decision, Sawant said his government will re-launch the 'Swayampurna Goa' programme with the Sawayampurna Mitras among government officials going to villages to enlist the rural population in the economic activity.
He himself will hold dialogue with the people in the villages to take the programme forward, Sawant said, adding that the initiative to send ministers to various constituencies will also continue.
