2 siblings held in raid, drugs worth over Rs 18 lakh seized

PANAJI

The Crime Branch (CB) of Goa police busted yet another drug racket and arrested two siblings of Goan origin in a raid at Anjuna on Wednesday.

Devidas Naik (42) and his sister Jyoti (45) are booked for possessing and allegedly selling different types of high-end narcotics worth Rs 18.50 lakh approx from their family-run cafe and house.

Information shared by CB SP Nidhin Valsan states that Devidas was the first to be arrested when, acting on a tip-off, the CB raided Dinesh Cafe situated at Starco Junction Anjuna and caught him red-handed in possession of 1.3 kgs of Charas, 86 Ecstacy Tablets, 4 grams of MDMA and LSD liquid bottle. The total value is estimated at Rs12.50 lakh. His interrogation led the CB to their house at Praisewaddo, Anjuna where the raiding team seized 1.2 kgs of Charas worth Rs 6 lakh. Jyoti, who was found with the consignment was soon apprehended and subsequently arrested under relevant sections of the NDPS Act.

The CB also confiscated around Rs 3 lakh cash and other articles from both these places, which is believed to represent the proceeds of their criminality.

Their third sibling was earlier arrested for another drug-related offense.

The Goa Police have already proposed to go after criminals and their associates for unexplained wealth and assets accumulated through unlawful means as they suspect several criminals, particularly those involved in narco-trade, could not have amassed wealth or acquired a large portion of their assets legally.

“Proceeds of crime will be investigated to ensure that illegally acquired wealth and assets are not further used by any criminal to commit a crime,” Director General of Police Jaspal Singh had told The Goan after chairing an inter-state coordination meeting last month.
