A fire broke out in a flat on the ground floor at Guirim in the early hours of Wednesday resulting in a loss of around Rs 3 lakh.Timely action by fire personnel attached to Mapusa fire station staved off a major disaster and saved property of Rs 50 lakh.
Soon after receiving a call at around 7.30 am, the fire personnel rushed to the site and began the fire fighting and rescue operations.
“There were three cooking gas cylinders “ two full and one empty “ inside the flat. The gas in one of the cylinders was leaking. We managed to remove all the three cylinders out of the flat and avert a major disaster,” said Srikrishna Parrikar, Mapusa Fire Station Incharge.
The fire personnel also managed to save the fire from spreading to a shop which was adjacent to the flat on the ground floor.
The exact cause of the fire was not known but it was suspected to be due to short-circuit.
