Nitin Raikar, Director of Fire and Emergency Services, highlighted the department's preparedness and response to numerous incidents caused by heavy monsoons in Goa.
Of the total incidents reported, 389 involved trees falling on roads, 208 on residential structures, while others affected electrical lines, vehicles, and other structures.
Raikar mentioned that the fire department is fully equipped and ready to handle these emergencies.
"We have 17 fire stations across three zones ” north, south, and central. Each station is well-prepared with the necessary equipment, including vehicles, cutters, ladders, and hydraulic tools," he said. The control room operates 24/7 to respond promptly to any calls.
During the red alert and heavy monsoon season, the department receives approximately 100 to 200 calls daily. These calls are managed efficiently, and the fire department ensures prompt service to the public.
Raikar emphasized that the fire personnel are always ready to tackle any emergency, including fires, tree falls, house collapses, and other disasters.
In cases of landslides, the department dispatches a team of 10 to 12 fire personnel equipped with shovels and other tools to clear the affected areas.
For tree falls, they utilize various types of cutters, including electrical chainsaws. The department's swift action ensures that roads are cleared, and any potential danger is mitigated.
Raikar also acknowledged the challenges faced by the fire department during this period but assured that they are well-prepared to handle any situation.
"Our fire personnel are always ready to attend to any type of call, be it fire or emergency. We are committed to providing prompt and effective service to the people of Goa," he concluded.
