VALPOI
Fires have continued to cause damage to plantations in parts of Sattari for the last few days.
Earlier this week, cashew plantations were gutted in a fire at Advoi and on Friday, cashew plantations were destroyed in a fire at Bhironda.
Locals noticed a fire at a plantation in Bhironda and tried to extinguish the fire, which was quickly spreading to other areas due to a strong wind.
Bhironda sarpanch Udaysingh Rane also rushed to the site and the Valpoi Fire Services was notified. Firefighters along with locals took nearly two hours to extinguish the blaze and prevent the flames from spreading and destroying other cashew plantations in the area.
The Valpoi fire station said there was extensive damage to cashew plantations and losses to the cashew growers.
Incidentally, both fire incidents took place at a short distance from each other, leading to speculations that the fires may have been deliberately caused.
Voicing concern over the two fire incidents, sarpanch Udaysingh Rane said the cause of the fires is unclear at this point.
