The Karwar Rural Police have busted a network involved in the illegal sale of ganja (cannabis) across Uttara Kannada and Goa.
In a two-phase operation conducted in Goa and Karwar, the police detained five accused—including three women—and seized 1.311 kg of ganja, cash, a motorcycle, mobile phones, and other items.
Police detained three women from Goa and two others from Karwar.
During the investigation, it was revealed that the accused were sourcing ganja from the Colomb area of Canacona and selling it in the Uttara Kannada and coastal regions.
Acting swiftly, the police detained three female suspects and seized 846 grams of ganja valued at approximately Rs 48,000), Rs 10,800 in cash, a digital weighing machine, and other items.
A team from Karwar Rural Police Station, along with staff from the Narcotics Crime Investigation Division, also conducted operations at Hegde village in Siddapur Taluka, Karwar.
During the operation, police apprehended an accused and seized 465 grams of Ganja (Cannabis) worth approximately Rs 25,000. A motorcycle, mobile phone and Cash were also seized in the operations.
During further investigation, another accused involved in the supply and distribution of narcotic substances was identified and later detained. Police seized 846 grams of Ganja worth approximately Rs 48,000. Besides, Cash amounting to Rs 10,800, a digital weighing machine and other items used for packing the narcotic substance were recovered from the accused.
The operation was carried out under the guidance of Dinesh MN, IPS, Superintendent of Police, Krishnamurthy B, Additional Superintendent of Police, Girish SV, Karwar Sub-Division Police Officer, YH Satyan, Police Inspector, Karwar Rural Police Station, along with the officers and staff of Karwar Rural Police Station.
