MARGAO
A total of five bidders have submitted their bids for the Rs 5-odd crore Margao Municipal Council’s door-to-door waste collection tender.
However, only four bids have qualified for the tender, with one bid disqualified since it did not comply with the tender condition.
Officials in the know informed that the tender bids will be scrutinized by the civic body by examining their comparative statements.
“We have opened the e-tender bids for the door-to-door waste collection. A total of five bidders had submitted their bids, out of which four have qualified for the next stage,” a senior official told The Goan.
The official further said that the two existing garbage contractors, Green Globe and Bapu have also submitted their bids and their bids have qualified for the next stage.
The Margao Municipal Council had floated two tenders, one for Margao and the other for the Fatorda civic area for the door-to-door waste collection from households and commercial establishments.
While the tender for the Margao area received three bids, there were two bidders for the Margao area.
The door-to-door waste collection had been in the news for all the wrong reasons, given that the existing door-to-door waste collection agencies had got a host of extensions to execute the work. In fact, the civic body had evoked strong criticism for granting extensions for the two agencies when the payments made to the two agencies ran into crores of rupees.
The door-to-door contract is expected to cost the MMC dearly this time round given that the civic body had decided to increase the labour charges of the workers engaged in the waste collection to Rs 700 per day as against the existing Rs 500 rate.
