A godown storing paper products caught fire at Govlebhat-Chimbel in the wee hours of Monday with the operation to control the fire continuing till late at night.
According to information available from Old Goa fire station, 13 tenders have been used in the operation to control the fire.
“We have already used 13 fire tenders from Old Goa (7), Panaji (5) and Kundaim (1). More than 70,000 litres have been used in the operation but the fire is yet to be brought under total control,” a fire official informed The Goan.
Further, the official informed that the owner claims to have incurred a loss of Rs 25 lakh in the incident.
Old Goa fire station’s SFO Ravi H Naik, sub-officer Pandurang Kankonkar, Panaji fire station’s SFO Rupesh Sawant, Kundaim fire station’s SFO Ganesh Govekar were supervising the fire dousing operation.
Meanwhile, a tea kiosk had also caught fire at the Kundaim industrial estate on Saturday evening.
The firefighters brought the fire under control and four LPG cylinders which were stored in the kiosk were retrieved safely before they could explode.
