Vehicles were stranded on either side as a stretch of road was inundated along the Khanapur-Anmod route via Hemadagga, which is a short route connecting Goa via Khanapur.
Incessant rains are lashing Belagavi and Khanapur region have left rivers in spate. The River Malaprabha and rivulets including the Halatar, and Kalsa-Bhandura Nullahs are also overflowing due to incessant rains lashing in the Kankumbi-Jamboti region.
This has resulted in the inundation of the big and small bridges. The overflowing of Halatar Nullah has resulted in the overflowing of a bridge on the Khanapur-Anmod road via Hemadagga.
This is the short route connecting Goa via Khanapur, but a big stretch of road has been submerged due to overflowing of the Halatar Nullah.
As a precautionary measure, the Khanapur police have banned entry on this road from Wednesday morning, leaving some vehicles stranded on either side.
In another incident, the Maruti Temple at Habbanhatti on the banks of Malaprabha River has been submerged due to the overflowing of the river.
Meanwhile, a huge tree fell near the bridge on Khanapur-Goa NH748 on Tuesday night, disrupting traffic for a couple of hours. Khanapur police cleared the tree at around 12.30 am on Wednesday.
All rivers in the district, including Ghataprabha, Krishna and Hiranyakeshi, are in spate due to heavy rainfall. District authorities have alerted people on the banks of the river to remain alert.
