With monsoons round the corner, the PWD was on the job at the Comba subway to perform the annual ritual “ to install water pumps at the underpass.
The contractor roped in by the PWD has already installed the water pumps in the water nullah adjoining the Comba subway to ensure that the underpass remains free from water logging during the monsoons.
The contractor is also putting in place a cubicle near the subway to accommodate the labourers, who will be manning the water pumps round the clock.
The Comba subway remains water logged during the monsoons, disrupting traffic to the educational institutions and towards the coastal belt. In fact, the PWD has been assigned the job of installing the water pumps at the Subway by the district collector, South under the Disaster Management to ensure that the Comba subway remains open even during the monsoons.
A PWD official informed that the pumps have already been installed well on time. Unlike last year, the PWD got the contractor to carry out the work before the subway is flooded by the rain water.
Traffic around Comba is disrupted during monsoons when the subway gets flooded and when the railway crossing is closed for traffic. The area plays host to a number of educational institutions and an inundated subway during monsoons had in the past only added to the traffic snarls around the area.
