The Chimbel panchayat and the Chimbel Primary Health Centre (PHC) have decided to join hands to tackle the menace of dengue in the village.
At a meeting of the Chimbel Village Health, Nutrition and Sanitation Committee (CVHNSC) in the panchayat on Friday, a plan was chalked out to undertake cleanliness cum awareness drives in the village, wherein representatives of both the Chimbel VP, Chimbel PHC and CVHNSC members will participate.
It may be recalled that The Goan had highlighted that dengue had raised its ugly head in Chimbel, with four cases detected in a single locality at Chinchwada, putting additional pressure on the PHC which is already fighting the battle against the Covid pandemic.
Speaking at the meeting, PHC Medical Officer Dr Jude D’Souza pointed out that the need of the hour is to prevent the breeding of mosquitoes and said an extensive drive needed in the village to ensure water stagnation does not occur.
“Also, it is important to create awareness among villagers to keep their surroundings clean, so that mosquito breeding sites are eliminated,” said Dr D’Souza, while suggesting that a plan has to be chalked out to implement the programme wherein all 11 wards in the village are covered.
“Such a programme has already been started in Taleigao panchayat, with cleanliness cum awareness drives being conducted in each ward on particular days,” Dr D’Souza informed and stated that the same could be replicated in Chimbel to keep dengue under check.
“We should not wait for taking action after dengue cases are detected, but should adopt a proactive role where the root cause is itself eliminated,” the doctor further opined.
Chimbel Sarpanch Chandrakant Kunkolkar, Deputy Sarpanch Manisha Chopdekar, panchas Ajay Borkar, Rosy Uttukuri, panchayat secretary Rajendra Gawas, sanitary inspector Kishore Araundekar, surveillance inspector Anil Prabhudessai, MPHW Gautam Gawas, CVHNSC members Brian Gonsalves, Ana Gracias, Jaya Kundaikar and others participated in the meeting.
Later, it was decided to start the awareness-cum-cleanliness drive in Ward 10 from next week. Drives will also be held in Wards 5, 6, 7, 8 and 9 for two days respectively, while Indira Nagar locality which comprises Wards 1, 2, 3, 4 and 11 will be allotted seven days for the drive.
