On February 24, 2021, the  authorities led by then Salcete Mamlatdar Prataprao Gaonkar had descended on the Hospicio property at Pajifond close to the Monte Hill sub station to raze dozens of structures erected on the land in the run up to the 2021 Municipal polls.

After capping the operation, Mamlatdar Prataprao Gaonkar had told the media that the Hospicio and the Health Department should take steps and measures to protect its land at Monte Hill from encroachment.

In fact, Prataprao Gaonkar was heard telling a health official when the demolition operation was underway that the Health department should maintain a vigil on its property to keep encroachers at bay.

It’s  now close to three years since the then Salcete Mamlatdar along with the demolition squad provided by then Margao SDM, Jyoti Kumari had descended at Monte Hill to clear the encroachments form the government owned land.

If the letter written by the district hospital Medical Superintendent Dr Rajendra Borkar to the Margao Municipal Council to clear the illegal structures is any indication, things have come to full circle at the Hospicio land with the illegal structures resurfacing on the property.
