Former minister backs Loutolim farmers in battle to save fields

Mickky demands dropping of khazan land acquisition for new Borim bridge

Former minister backs Loutolim farmers in battle to save fields

MARGAO
Former Minister Mickky Pacheco on Saturday extended his support to the villagers of Loutolim waging a battle to save their khazan lands from being destroyed by the proposed new Borim bridge.

Mickky further said that he and wife Viola will contest the 2027 Assembly elections from Benaulim and Nuvem Assembly constituencies respectively.

The former Minister requested Chief Minister Pramod Sawant to keep an eye on the functioning of the Ministers and MLAs, saying each of the Ministers are functioning as per their whims and fancies.

Briefing the media, Mickky said the government should drop the land acquisition proceedings for the new Borim bridge since the alignment of the bridge is passing through the Khazan lands. “On one hand, the government has set in motion the process to prepare an Agriculture policy. On the other hand, the government has set in motion the process to acquire two lakh square metres of lush green khazan land for the proposed new Borim bridge,” he said, demanding dropping of the land acquisition proceedings.

Saying the situation in Goa on all fronts is going from bad to worse, Mickky said the increasing number of crimes, including murders, thefts, besides drunken driving are on the rise due to the failure of the departments. “The fact that people of Goa are coming on the streets on every issue goes to show that the government is not functioning as per the wishes of the people. This is partly due to the fact that the Ministers, who are part of the government, are functioning independently,” he said.

He said that the Congress turncoats had all joined the ruling BJP not for the development of the people, but for their personal development. He requested Chief Minister Pramod Sawant to ensure that professional looters are not made Ministers in his Cabinet.
