Four arrested in Canacona for assault of UP native

CANACONA   

The Canacona Police have arrested four local residents for a violent attack on Sunny Khanna, a native of Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh. The suspects also stole cash and valuables, including a mobile phone, from Khanna.   

According to the police, the suspects are Dattaraj Naik Dessai from Tembewado, Suweak Naik from Sheller, Prajot Bandekar from Devabagh, and Prithviraj Naik Gaonkar from Tembewada, Canacona. They have been arrested for assaulting Khanna and stealing his cash and valuables at Ponsulem, Canacona. The suspects are charged under several sections of the BNS 2023 and are currently in police custody for two days.   

The police report states that on August 2, around 4:30 AM, Dattaraj Naik Dessai and three others forcibly entered Khanna’s rented flat.

They verbally abused and physically assaulted him, hitting him with fists, a leather belt, and a beer bottle.

Khanna suffered serious injuries to his head and ribs.   

The suspects then stole Khanna’s mobile phone (worth Rs 25,000), a Bluetooth Boat speaker (worth Rs 7,000), and Rs 18,000 in cash, totalling Rs 50,000. Dattaraj Naik Dessai also threatened Khanna with dire consequences if he reported the incident to the police.   

During the investigation, the police identified and arrested all four suspects.

The recovery of the stolen items and cash is ongoing. The case is being investigated by PSI Babu D Dessai under the supervision of Canacona PI Harish Raut Desai and the guidance of Dy SP Tikam Singh Verma.
