CANACONA

Mahakshetra Sri Mallikarjun Sansthan in Shristhal, Canacona, will hold various religious and cultural events this year during the month of Shravan to honour Goddess Sri Shankar Parvati.

Shravan begins on Monday, 5th August 2024. The Maharudra ritual will also start on this day and continue for seven days, performed by ritualistic Brahmins, ending on 11th August 2024, according to a press release from Shri Mallikarjun Devalaya Committee Chairman Vithoba Desai.

This year, there are five Mondays in Shravan. On every Shravan Monday, devotees can perform abhishekam at the temple from 8 am. Mahaprasad will be available for participants, Mahajans, local devotees, and visitors from Karnataka and other places. Maha Abhishek will be held every Shravan Monday at 1 pm, followed by Bhajan Kirtan at 6:30 pm, and Shree’s Palkhi Utsav at 9 pm, concluding with Mahapuja and Mahaprasad.

The first Shravan Monday on 5th August 2024 will feature a kirtan by Sri Vishwanath Naik from Sindhudurg, accompanied by Ganesh Vetorekar on Tabla and Gajanan Mistry on Samvadini.

The second Shravan Monday, 12th August 2024, will be celebrated by Nagarsekar Mahajana, featuring singer Gayatri Gaikwad from Gulhane, Maharashtra, performing bhajans, ghazals, and songs.

The third Shravan Monday on 19th August 2024 will be marked by the Bhaireli and Gaitonde families, with a devotional program by Bhaktirang Mandal featuring Siddhi Shelar and Omkar Chari, supported by musicians Vaibhav Bhagat (Tabla), Nihal Komarpant (Mridang), Sujay Pagi (Manjiri), and Vipul Bhagat (Samvadini), with sound by Sagar Pandit.

On the fourth Shravan Monday, 26th August 2024, the Mokhardkar Vaishnav Samaj will celebrate. Due to Shri Krishna Jayanti on the same day, the palanquin and Mahapuja will be completed early to allow for the bhajan program.

The rare fifth Shravan Monday will be celebrated on 2nd September 2024 by the Kholkar (Bhav Poot) family.

Additionally, Suta Punav (Coconut Pournima, Rakshabandhan) will be observed on Monday, 19th August 2024, Gokulashtami on Saturday, 26th August 2024, and “Devachi Navi” on Friday, 30th August 2024.

Temple Committee Chairman Vithoba Desai has appealed for everyone’s cooperation to ensure the success of the religious and cultural programmes.
